Programme Design and Development

Unit Description

The Programme Design and Development sub-directorate is a new component gearing itself to be the engine behind the design and development of the Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute's (CTLI) teacher professional development programmes. This sub-directorate is responsible for the lifecycle of new programme creation and the enhancement of existing programmes.

It also actively extends the reach of CTLI initiatives through resource development, social media, and other marketing campaigns. At total capacity and when established in all functions shortly, it will be responsible for research, innovation, quality management and digital transformation projects. A phased implementation approach is preferred to facilitate the transition and expansion process at CTLI.

Unit Function

  • The Programme Design and Development sub-directorate plays a collaborative yet crucial role at the CTLI. The team's expertise and dedication to improved learning experience design, visual design and overall product quality will ensure the CTLI continues to deliver high-quality professional development programmes that ultimately empower teachers and school leaders to benefit learners across the Western Cape. Their main functions are as follows:

    Design and Development:

This team oversees programme development, from brainstorming learning experiences to producing engaging materials (digital and print). The team manages content development teams composed of researchers, writers, and graphic designers to ensure that content is accurate, relevant, and visually appealing. Programmes cater to face-to-face, self-paced, and blended learning models, maximizing accessibility and effectiveness. With expertise in digital teaching and learning, they create interactive, visually stimulating materials for dynamic learning experiences for the adult learner.

    Quality Assurance and Information Management:

Content, graphics, and media undergo rigorous quality checks to meet programme requirements and ensure effectiveness for adult learning. Our programs are designed with great care to align with the curriculum, provincial/national policies, and internal frameworks for ensuring quality. At the same time, style guides are established and adhered to, providing a cohesive brand experience across all materials. Establishing and implementing a Quality Management Framework using various data capturing and reporting tools allows for sound data-driven decisions at the CTLI. Continuous evaluation and trend analysis informs programme revisions and updates.

    Research and Innovation:

Staying ahead of the curve can be daunting and exciting. This sub-directorate conducts constant research in various fields, including teacher training needs, teacher participation trends, curriculum policy, pedagogical trends, and digital tools. With teachers and school leaders at the centre of CTILI's initiatives, we envisage a training institute that designs and develops material that provides more than information but creates memorable experiences rich in innovative pedagogical approaches. This statement highlights best practices. Feedback loops collect insights for improved future programs.

    Marketing and Communication:

The team manages the CTLI's marketing and social media platforms, effectively communicating programme offerings and engaging with target audiences. CTLI must raise awareness of professional development and educational insights to serve teachers and school leaders better.
In summary, the expansion of CTLI to include the sub-directorate, Programme Design and Development, is welcomed, and the team is excited to play their part in preparing confident, knowledgeable and skilled teachers within a future-focused education environment.
